AGRO BASED TRAINING AND LIVELIHOOD FOR 100 TRIBAL WOMEN IN KHOUPUM

The women of India, particularly in our remote tribal and rural areas have great entrepreneurship, creative skills and the ability to work back-breaking hours. With a little assistance they are able to completely transform the lives of their families. By providing agriculture support training through self-help group members, ARO help bring women in the forefront of agricultural decisions. This gives women their due recognition as farmers in their own right and not just unpaid labourers.

For increased and better quality yields ARO assisted 100 marginalized tribal women farmers of Khoupum Valley, an interior village in the Thamenglong District of Manipur State, to get quality seeds and drought resistant varieties for food crops and cash crops from accredited government and private sources. Through a range of trainings (beginner and advanced) in water-conservative cultivation technologies, integrated natural resource management and traditional natural pest control management and organic farming we are helping them improve land and crop productivity. For continuous and risk free income throughout the year, pig rearing and poultry are encouraged and established among the women farmers. This innovative project ''Agro based training for 100 tribal women in Khoupum'' is being implemented from October 2017. Within a short span of one year itself, the target women have achieved great progress and proved that they are no less than those who claim to have advanced knowledge and improved standardized facilities.
